Innovation in seed!

Our history begins in 1943. That time governance of city Kecskemét decided to found a plant breeding station to help horticultural development of the city and its vicinity. As a result, predecessor of today’s ZKI Zrt. was formed. Gyula Mészöly was entrusted with organising this breeding station. He started to collect domestic and foreign vegetable varieties for selection work purposes.

After more re-structurings, in 1993, when several Hungarian horticultural research stations were turned into business associations, a new re-structuring occurred. In pursuance of this change, ZKI was also turned into a joint stock Company. 100% owner is the Hungarian State.  

After more changings, ZKI looked over its activities and subsumed everything for realizing position  on the Hungarian and on the international vegetable seed markets.

In Hungary we sell our newest varieties to professional growers with our own marketing and sales organization, and we started to organise our presence on foreign markets as well. As a result, we founded subsidiaries in Slovakia and Serbia with 100% ZKI ownership in 2002-2003.

Our international expansion in sales activity is in our focus nowdays as well.

Presently ZKI Zrt. has total 80 employees, of which 8 are working as breeders and 12 are research associates. Most of our colleagues work in areas of seed treatment and sales. Our primal goal is to create such new varieties, which fulfill the needs of professional growers in the first place, and verifying the reputation of excellent quality, reliable seeds of competitive vegetable varieties.
